Commercial Energy Compliance for Non-Domestic Buildings
From new offices and retail units to warehouses, schools, mixed-use spaces, extensions and conversions, we help project teams demonstrate Part L compliance with clear calculations, practical advice and reports ready for Building Control.
Energy Assessment for Commercial and Non-Domestic Projects
SBEM calculations are used to assess the energy performance of non-domestic buildings and support compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations.
The assessment considers the building layout, use of different spaces, construction fabric, heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water, lighting and renewable technologies. The result is a detailed compliance output that helps Building Control understand whether the proposed or completed building meets the required standard.
SBEM is the key compliance route for many commercial buildings, including new builds, extensions, conversions and major renovation projects.

Clear Part L Documentation for Building Control
A BRUKL Report is the formal compliance report produced from the SBEM assessment. It is used to show how a commercial or non-domestic building performs against the required Part L standards.
For many projects, the BRUKL Report is needed before work starts and again at completion, allowing Building Control to review the design and final building information.
Design Stage BRUKL
Prepared from drawings and specifications before construction begins, helping confirm whether the proposed design is on track for compliance.
As-Built BRUKL
Prepared using final building information, installed systems and confirmed specifications at completion stage.
Non-Domestic EPC
Where required, the final as-built information can support the production of a commercial EPC.
Compliance Advice
If the building does not pass initially, we provide practical recommendations to help improve the result.
